About The Artwork

We often hear that works of art are eternal. Pictures, music, literature - all this keeps in itself the memory of the past, allows us to plunge into a time when we did not even exist at all. For some, magic, but for others, reality. You just need to make a little effort. Pictures help us at least for a moment to feel "out of place", to find ourselves not in a stuffy office or in the twilight of our bedroom in the hygge style, but in the house of some richly foreign merchant from Italy, who decided to please himself with his beautiful portrait, ordered at Rembrandt. We are immersed in the past without a time machine, the still life of the Dutch painter. At the first glance at the picture, thought-provoking questions immediately begin to flash in my head. Are these peaches as sweet and juicy as the ones we eat now, sitting on the couch and flipping through the feed of social networks in a brand new iPhone with a fruit-free hand? What about grapes hanging from the chest of drawers in heavy bunches? Was it hard for the artist then to get hold of this outlandish fruit, which can now be bought in any convenience store? What were the shops at that time? How did the artist manage to convey all the freshness of these fruits, since even a snail does not disdain to sit on the fluffy surface of a peach and reaches out to invitingly green foliage? The painting, the word time machine, takes us to the 17th century, to the studio of an artist who painstakingly paints a marble tabletop with a thin brush. It writes so skillfully and accurately that its cool and smooth surface can be felt without touching, it is enough to peer at the shades of Mars and pink kraplak, which calmly lie under the stains of titanium white, it is enough just to hold your gaze on the chest of drawers for a second more to appreciate what kind of the furniture used to be massive and of high quality. Poraskinuv this way and that, you can understand that this still life was written for someone rich and noble, it was all too pretentious and expensive. Immediately there is a desire to look more closely at the picture, and the gaze immediately catches on a massive heavy tablecloth made of solid velvet, which could only be found in the distant past. Why is this picture not a portal to the past? The longer you look at the canvas, the more you notice details that are not immediately visible, at the first, less attentive glance. The painting is based on work Willem von Aelst
