Charlottesville, Virginia abstract artist. Represented by Capital Artists Collective, (Washington DC), Serena and Lily, One Kings Lane, Harris Fine Art, (Charlottesville, Va), Art Des Femmes, (NYC) Please see my "COLLECTIONS" section to view art organized by style. ARTIST STATEMENT: Sarah Trundle is a Charlottesville, Va. painter who, after beginnings in representational art, now works primarily in abstraction. Bold and colorful geometric shapes are the hallmarks of her work which, along with the very paint itself, are what she considers her "subjects". Her unique and many-layered paintings range from brightly colored, playful abstracts, to serene, monochromatic horizon line paintings- the seemingly disparate styles representative of her exploration of the relationship and between order and chaos that fuels her process. Her work results from a largely intuitive process that explores the interdependence of these seemingly opposite but interdependent concepts. Each painting emerges from a constantly shifting and evolving process. Her approach is one of obscuring and re-defining, of complicating and consolidating, of taking risks to see what surprises emerge to inform each subsequent step. The successes are when this process eventually leads to a final balance that gives her that “aha, its done!” moment. The simplicity of the final product thus often belies the complexity of its creation. It is this struggle and process, this push pull between simple and complex, between random and intentional, between order and choas, between apparent and obscured, this "what if...?" line of thinking, that Sarah sees as an integral part of the finished painting as a whole. She thus strives to give the viewer a window into this struggle, by often leaving edges raw and unfished, marks in-competely rubbed or scraped out, and remnants of early layers, shifted lines and shapes, indecision and risks, all still visible. She is represented by several galleries nationwide and she is honored to have her work in numerous private and public collections. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Dartmouth College and a Masters Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She started her career as a full time artist after having worked many years as a mental health therapist (who always dabbled in art).
