I keep tatami mats on my studio floor as I work. After 3 years in one studio, I had moved these 2 mats with me to another studio. When I unfolded them, I realized I had a work of art beneath my feet. The story of intention behind everything I'd made, and everything I'd tried, was there in the bamboo mat. The layers of this piece give the eye something new to look at every time.

About The Artwork

Caroline is interested in the emotional responses that happen when color, sound, and movement translate each other. Her paintings are rhythmic and lyrical, exuberant and contemplative. She enjoys collaborating with dancers, musicians, and filmmakers, always looking for new ways to communicate with immediacy and bring the viewer into the process. Her work conveys a sense of freedom, immediacy, and joy. Caroline received her MFA in Studio Art from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her BA in Art and Art History from Brown University. She currently resides in her hometown of Austin, Texas, and spends about half the year traveling on art-related journeys.
