ABOUT THE ARTWORK
USING LYRICS FROM SONGS MADE FAMOUS DURING THE ANTI APARTHEID MOVEMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA, BY SIXTO RODRIGUEZ, THESE PAINTINGS ARE OF THE SHANTY TOWNS ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF CAPE TOWN. This is a painting on an MDF board, in a black wooden frame. Acrylic paint and collage are used to create the image. There are many layers of paint, creating texture and history to the board, scratches to the paint surface give us the skyline of electrical cables and telegraph poles. Then collage of lyrics and other images to build the structures.
