Art Description

Painting: Household on Wood, Other.

This is a nonobjective abstract painting in encaustic on wood panels, mounted together to create a 20” square painting. This piece employs metal leaf and mica pigments to create a shimmering effect in the textured encaustic paint. The areas where there is no paint is exposed raw wood.

This piece comes ready to hang in a simple white exhibition frame.

Encaustic paint is made from a combination of beeswax, pigment, and damar, and is worked by heating and melting the materials. Encaustic paintings are very durable (examples remain from ancient Egypt) but they are susceptible to high temperatures, so they should not be hung in a place which may get excessively hot, such as near a radiator or in direct sunlight.
