My paintings are interpretations of the effects of light in nature. Summer Marsh Light is part of an ongoing series inspired by Elkhorn Slough an estuary reserve on the California Coast. The time of day is late afternoon as the sun is beginning to go down and the colors of the landscape are softening. I start the painting with a thin wash of magenta and slowly build up the surface by glazing layers of paint alternating between different shades of blue, green, yellow and magenta until I reach the desired glowing effect.

Victoria Veedell is a painter who captures the essence of nature by examining the effects of light on form in the natural world. Her paintings, vibrant and colorful abstractions of landscape, have been noted for their calming influence on the viewer, allowing for reflection. Victoria was born in Texas and received a BFA at Texas A & M, Corpus Christi and worked toward MA at NYU. Travel is an important component in her work, as it allows her to observe and compare gradients of color, light and atmosphere in different geographic areas. Part of her travel objective is to attend artist residency programs all over the world. This gives her a concentrated time in a place to live and work. She has been an artist in residence at the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in Healdsburg, CA, Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, Kamiyama Artist in Residence, Japan and the Chitraniketan Residency, India. Victoria is represented by Robert Allen Fine Art, Sausalito, CA; Eminent Design, Sonoma, CA; Secession Art & Design, San Francisco, CA; and Gallery 85, San Jose, CA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and art centers and is included in many private and corporate collections. Victoria lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
