Sunflowers en Provence Painting

After spending time at my God Mothers picturesque renovated farmhouse in Aix-en-Provence, I have well and truly fallen in love with the stunning landscapes the South of France region has to offer. In any setting this vibrant acrylic painting is sure to add a splash of much needed colour in our day to day lives. As an artist who is drawn to cheerful subjects of natural beauty, these fields of sunflowers were just irresistible (and a little dizzying) to paint. Never one to shy away from a challenge I took to this canvas with much enthusiasm and wanted to recreate the sense of summer heat, magnificent colours and mediterranean blue skies. I also wanted to capture the atmosphere that the buzzing bees create when they are furiously pollinating from sunflower to sunflower. I definitely needed stamina to get to the finished result of each petal lovingly painted against the intricate tree lined background and interestingly dishevelled out house. As a sun worshipper with the case of wanderlust, I find living in London shall we say, a tad grey at times. The northern hemisphere isn't particularly kind to us and I know the importance of the promise of summer on many of my friends and family. I wished to ease this longing and instantly transport the viewer into this delightful field of sunflowers, practically feel the warmth and boost moods. Painting such a tremendously complex field of flowers was quite the challenge however with my passion for painting and creating intricate details, I naturally got absorbed in the painting process where time always seems to disappear. I hope to stir in the viewer feelings of happiness and fond memories of summer days and if they are lucky enough to of been to the Provence region themselves, be reminded of the incredible place of natural beauty.
