ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The watercolor painting depicts a lighthouse, specifically the South Haven Lighthouse, against a vibrant backdrop of the sunset sky. This reference picture impressed me with its contrasts and the vibrant sunset colors. The tranquil clear sky contrasts with the rough and lively waves, and the warm yellow orange and pink hues of the sky contrast with the blues of the waters. The lighthouse standing steadfast gives a strong sense of stability and security and a balance between the calmness and the movement in the scene. In addition to painting the vivid colors, I also attempted to impart the fluid characteristics of water to the waves using wet-in-wet application of color.
