Inspired by the novel Generations of Winter by Vassily Aksyonov, this painting is a tribute to man's drive to survive in spite of overwhelming odds. This novel covers Soviet history from 1925 to Stalin's death in 1953--saga of the Gradov family and their will to overcome the terrors of the gulags imposed by Stalin. I hope my viewers will appreciate, in spite of their gaunt appearance, the portraits of two men who overcame it all. Size of image: 6 X 4 inches matted and framed in contemporary style

Growing up in a rural area in Central Ohio where neither family nor school system placed value on art, Charlotte Shroyer chanced upon art in a class requirement for elementary education certification. A BA with a major in French did not prepare her to make a living, but education did and also provided the impetus to become an artist that was to blossom into reality some 40 years later. Shroyer has received numerous national and international awards for her abstract and contemporary figurative oils and monotypes: 2016, Berliner Honorary Diploma, Berlin, Germany; 2015, Recognition of Artistic Value, Bologna, Italy; 2015, 2nd Place, 87th Annual International Juried Competition, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; 2015, Emerging International Contemporary Artist, American Juried Art Salon; 2011, First Place, Top Ten International Women in the Arts, Rome, Italy, and more
