ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is one of the five paintings of the series called 'Shiva Panchakshara Stotra'. Water colour paintings inspired by the five syllables 'Na' 'Ma' 'Shi' 'Va' 'Ya' of Shiva Panchakshara Stotra. This is called 'Shi' and is based on the poem by Adi Shankara describing the qualities of Lord Shiva. The syllable Shi in Devnagri is used as a motif in the composition and have tried to visually represent all the elements described in the third Stotra. I have used Brustro Artist's water colour paper (300 gsm), QoR water colour and Camelin Photo Inks. The third stanza 'Shi' of the poem in Sanskrit and translation in English: 'Shi' Shivaya gauri vadanabja brnda suryaya dakshadhvara nashakaya. Sri nilakanthaya Vrshadhvajaya tasmai 'Shi' karaya Namah Shivaya He who is auspicious and who is like the newly risen sun causing the lotus-face of Gauri to blossom, He who is the destroyer of the sacrifice of Daksha, He who has a blue throat and has a bull as his emblem, Salutations to that Shiva, who is represented by the syllable “Shi”
