Margaret Thatcher and Karl Marx sit back to back roped together. In spite of her political hatred of Marx, Thatcher has been described as a Marxist and this painting is subtitled MARXISTS. Allegedly, Thatcher said 'there's no such thing as society' and 'you can't buck the market'. I suppose it was this kind of statement which got her the label 'closet Marxist' in some quarters..
