"The Sun on My Skin" is an original painting on deep canvas. It is part of a pair alongside "The Earth Beneath My Feet". I have moved house & studio this year, and have been very aware of how much being in nature, is important to me. The palette of my work has changed in response to this. Full of earthy browns, golds and warm tones. This painting is a response to world around me, and being grounded within it. Within this simple three line framework, there are a variety of marks and expressions. The painting was worked, and reworked until the marks felt true and authentic to my experience. There are many paintings under this painting. The bronze paint pulls in the light, whilst the sharp pencil marks contrast, and create their own linear poetry. The dark dots punctuate, and provide a lilting rhythm and energy. Although primarily an abstract painting, a lot of viewers have commented that they see a landscape. I find it fascinating how we want to find a narrative in marks and images. I love how it could be an urban or rural landscape. You can see and feel whatever feels true to you. That is the beauty of art. I love the warmth and energy within this painting. It has a strength created by the strong vertical lines, but also an incredible softness. **PLEASE NOTE : The painting comes unframed, and the image shows a framing suggestion**

And it has the power to lift, communicate and transform. Using pattern and mark to create rhythm, I use a range of materials; paint, pencil, fabric, collage, metallics, and build up my paintings in a very organic way. I overlay layers of paint, mark and collage to build up the pictorial space. This creates glimpses, hidden spaces, things half_ shown, suggested. I use delicate layers of texture, drawing and colour to create an ambiguous space. The image is then worked and re_worked until the image is “found”. Only when a balance and integration is achieved I feel that the painting is finished. I like to think of them as “visual poems”. This sensual world is one to be absorbed, felt, and enjoyed. "
