Third part of the triptych "Taganka Theatre". Acrylic on paper, 100/80 cm, 2009. Original sold. "Sharashka'" - Yury Lyubimov's production at the Taganka Theater, is based on portions of "The First Circle," Alexander Solzhenitsyn's novel of life in a special prison camp Taganka Theatre (Театр на Таганке) is a theater located in the Art Nouveau building on Taganka Square in Moscow. The theatre was founded in 1964 by Yuri Lyubimov. Sharashka was an informal name for secret research and development laboratories in the Soviet Gulag labor camp system. Etymologically, the word sharashka is derived from a Russian slang expression sharashkina kontora ("Sharashka's office", which in its turn comes from the criminal argot term "шарага" for a band of thiefs, hoodlums, etc., an ironic, derogatory term to denote a poorly organized, impromptu, or bluffing organization. Official name was ОКБ that is Опытное конструкторское бюро that can be translated as "Experimental Design Bureau".
