With Tamarillos, traditional and contemporary elements are combined to create a harmonious, rhythmic composition. Inspired by the masters Vermeer and Rembrandt, Cardozo embraces the chiaroscuro technique seen throughout this bold depiction of New Zealand's exotic fruit. The ripeness of the tamarillos, shimmering surface of the bronze vessels, and wrinkles of brightly colored drapery are all delicately rendered in rich tones against a subtle, inviting Asian landscape. A China platter draws the viewer's eye and complements the warm reds of the fruit to complete this carefully balanced arrangement portrayed with a provocative realism. Comment by Antonio Estevez

Horacio Cardozo was born in Argentina, where he studied Architecture and Design at Buenos Aires University and Philosophy at Del Salvador University. His drawing skills and his admiration for fine arts, especially those of the Renaissance period, led him to explore a career in painting, since 1987.His oil paintings display a touch of surrealism and express mythical ideas and concepts as well as philosophical themes. His eagerness to understand the inherent relationship between human nature, the universal order and the underlying reality leads him to create images that attempt to explain that which defies reason. His nude and semi-nude series set in a mystic aura are tinted with a subtle beauty. He has participated in many group exhibitions such as the 3rd Young Art Biennale, 1993; the National Senate, Buenos Aires, 1997 and 2000; and in MAC 21, Marbella, Spain, 2000; among others. Since 2018 Horacio has been living in Brisbane, Australia where he works as a Graphic Artist and continues to develop his artistic career.
