This work focuses on the distorted and anamorphic aspects of the notion of a 'community', as seen by its manipulation of optical illusion. The painting’s recurring depiction of facial features represents the macrocosmic notion of the community as a self-contained microcosm: the self as an autonomous universe. Another key idea is the impossibility of entirely possessing an individual as represented by the miniature metal chain, by which the painting hangs. On an introspective level, the piece deals with the notion of self-enslavement through its portrayal of a dense multiplicity of faces, imprisoned within and limited by a tight spherical shape.
