Painted on location in the town's historic district during the Plein Air event a few years back in Telluride - a town in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Plein-air painting is the practice of painting landscape pictures out-of-doors, more loosely, the achievement of an intense impression of the open air in a landscape painting. Painting en plein air, though very challenging due to unpredictability and varying conditions, like constantly changing light, wind and rain, heat or cold, can be very rewarding, since it allows me to experience the landscape to the maximum and capture the spirit and essence of a landscape by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into my works. Materials used to create this artwork: Oil on a professional grade, fine texture polyflax/cotton blend canvas that has added durability and longevity due to the synthetic polyflax fibers. This canvas is mounted to RayMar 1/16" FEATHERLITE MDF panel, which is a double refined hardboard with no added oils. The back of the board is sealed with RayMar signature gray melamine for a finished look that prevents warping and deterioration. The painting is unframed, and it will require a frame to hang. It will fit in a standard (USA) 9"x12" frame. Images showing the painting framed in home interiors are for presentation of potential framing ideas only. Frame is NOT included.

Signature member of American Impressionist Society (AIS),Signature Member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA); and an Artist Member of California Art Club (CAC). All my childhood and youth I lived and breathed music. The transition from playing piano to transferring this inner music on canvas with oil paint happened later in life. I see my art as visual music. I try to bring it to life with harmonious colors, which emanate joy and peace. I infuse each of my brush strokes with its own kind of melody. My hope is that the viewers will hear the sounds and rhythms of that music as they look at my work, and it will generate the same emotions and connections that I had when painting that piece. I am inspired by the way light shapes the landscape, and I strive to capture it on canvas. I often paint en plein air (on location), which allows me to use all my senses to interpret a scene in front of me with a sense of immediacy and honesty. I choose to paint in oils, because I love their robust quality of bright, luminous colors, which are easily bendable and capable of retaining texture and showing brushstrokes. My favorite starting point for the landscape painting is the golden light of late afternoon, known as the “magic hour”, which creates the most intriguing and fascinating effects by merging captivating shadow patterns and warm, luminous color of the setting sun.
