This project goes back a ways… There was a time back in the 1980’s when I thought more in terms of multi panels to express my ideas, comic strip style. This is one of those projects. Available as a whole set or singles, or any multiple of pages depending on availability. For now all are still available. Divided into part one and part two each with a title page adding up to 12 frames. A humorous look at the (human) psyche, inspired by my bendy table lamp. Part one, the first title + 5 pages, represents the lamp becoming aware of itself. Part two, second title + 5 pages, shows what it does with its awareness! The close up picture is to get a better feel for the texture and brushstroke. Then there’s me holding the folder open in which I keep the 12 pages... for perspective... Painted on Nepal handmade paper , a parchment type paper, with color sumi calligraphy inksticks. HxW 6.9 x 6.3 in,17.4 x 16.9 cm From Wikipedia Inksticks (Chinese: 墨; pinyin: mò) or ink cakes are a type of solid Chinese ink used traditionally in several Chinese and East Asian art forms such as calligraphy and brush painting. Inksticks are made mainly of soot and animal glue. To make ink, the inkstick is ground against an inkstone with a small quantity of water to produce a dark liquid which is then applied with an ink brush. A good inkstick can be as hard as stone. Coloured ink is oil soot ink that has been blended with pigments to create a solid ink of color The date is on the last panel only, Aug. 1987. The paint looks as fresh now as when the work was newly done, a testament to the quality of the paint & the paper. My work at that time was done without the use of preliminary sketches, or pencil lines. This is paint applied directly onto a blank page. Available individually, but best as a complete set. Packaging for my small paintings like this one is sealed in plastic sleeve, sealed in a padded hard plastic file case, and in an envelope.

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
