Boldly asserting its presence, the artwork declares "THIS IS ART" over "THIS IS NOT ART" in dynamic, hand-painted letters. I have come to a realization about myself and my art. I am impatient and I have need for instant gratification. I get frustrated with time consuming traditional techniques and want to skip ahead to the end. These are the reasons that I am a series artist. I like to experiment with an idea or a technique until I am satisfied with the result. The inspiration for my work is in trying the new techniques. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art. My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames and using centrifugal force and gravity to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
