The Arm Painting

The inspiration for this piece came from several sources combined. It represents my continued study of Qi Gong and moving energy through one's hands to heal, focus and meditate. I was also inspired by my colleague's work using Neon as a medium, creating Chihuli-esque glass sculptures filled with dancing Neon gas that glows a mesmerizing array of colors. I was also inspired by my recent completion of the tv series Twin Peaks by director David Lynch, and a character called The Arm. I created the piece after mulling over the fact that all these things were related in some shape or form and that like many things in our lives that we don't pay attention to, are all pulling us towards the same conclusions about life and the meaning of everything. We are all energy. We exude power in many forms. This is what we are. In an infinite space of nothingness, what are we but this raw energy pulsating and vibrating in a void, yearning for meaning and persisting despite ourselves. This piece endeavors to express this and invites you as a the viewer to ponder on what that means to you.
