ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Brilliant, bold still life oil painting on stretched canvas. Life's bounty is explored in this engaging, uniquely expressive still life oil painting. The viewer is offered a feast of textures, colors and forms to excite the soul. In the painting, art and nature come together through a painting, bouquet of flowers, fruit, eggs and a vibrant handmade cloth to express a larger sense of creative sustencance. And while each object retains a distinctness it's the fullness felt in the whole composition that becomes an amazing visual adventure. In painting this work, exaggerated hues, bold lines and a sophisticated palette of colors were used to express fullness within rather simplified forms. Each stroke of the brush was applied with an intention directed at revealing the character of the object I was witnessing as well as it's relationship to the whole. This is a signed original oil painting created on a gallery wrapped canvas. The artworks sides are painted so that it can be hung framed or unframed.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
