This painting is about a man travelling in the sahara desert with his camel. He is carrying with him a little olive tree in a basket; looking for the ideal place to plant it and see it grow and prosper safely. Every human being is a traveller holding on to something (a life project, fulfillment, an idea, or an ideal) in his heart and mind searching for the ideal place, time, people to see it happen and prosper. At the same time, Everyone is struggling to escape from the things that kill that hope and passion inside them. It is a story about struggle and hope. Life is like that sahara desert, very beautiful yet ruthless and sometimes hostile. Life contains our hopes and sufferings and it is up to us to bear them with dignity in it. The camel, a symbol of patience and resilience, is imposing which makes it key to the meaning in the painting.

Megid Khedhiry (b. 1984 in Sousse, Tunisia). Starting seriously painting and drawing at the age of 17, most of his work was mainly focused on portraiture. His body of work then started taking shape by reanimating classical realist painting genres forming a bridge to the present with fresh insight and imagery. The scenes he paints are inhabited by figures, symbols, archetypes, and natural elements that are fueled by a sense of personal as well as universal inquiries into the human condition and psyche. Figures and settings are reinterpreted in metaphorical environments that form the nexus between reality and its meaning, expressed through an unconscious world of symbolic imagery. His works, however, should not be confused with Surrealism, for they are meant to create a coherent, specific idea. His literary academic forming and interest in great artists like Caravaggio, William Blake, Jacques-Louis David influenced artistic outlook and technique. Numerous of his works are in private collections around the world.
