About The Artwork

My paintings are all about people though sometimes they may not always look like an average person, my people are like the sea always changing. I want my people to have a bit of character, a little of the night about them but above all I want them to be special. I’m a people watcher; I could study a person for hours, we all wear a mask to hide our true characters some of my people wear an egg as a mask, some hats, some are very confident like my Goddesses, but we all have something in common, we all have something to hide. Only my Lovers show their true feelings and the love they have for each other or sadness when apart, and my Jazz players come in all shapes and sizes. For me nudes are interesting to paint, I’ve had people say some of my Ladies are gross, grotesque, fat and ugly, I’ve also had people comment that they are profoundly beautiful. My ladies come in all shapes and sizes have lots of beautiful curves, voluptuous of indeterminate origin they can be arrogant but always have an inner glow about them that radiates out, and I try to capture that glow with every knife or brush stroke. My ladies have always been with me; my earliest drawings were nudes when I had my first gallery on Samui, I used to have lots of Thais walking by furtively peeping into my shop with lots of kids sneaking a look, all because of my nudes, Thais don’t usually do nudes. I want my art to have an art deco or a sort of surrealism feel to it, I want you to see something different every time you look at it, I want it to hold your imagination.

Ta Byrne is a Thai artist who lives and works on the beautiful island of Koh Samui, just off the south coast of Thailand. Her Oil Paintings . are vibrant, eye-catching and packed with a sense of fun and humour. Ta takes humans as her focal point in her Figurative Painting but abstracts these figures by distorting them and using a cartoonish style to create a more humorous feel. While her work is mostly representational, she incorporates Surrealist elements in many of her paintings, making her one of the most exciting artists working in Thailand today. Ta comes from humble beginnings, living out her childhood on the rural outskirts of Bangkok as a farmer's daughter. During her teen years, she worked sewing shirts in a Bangkok sweatshop, and it was during this time that she met an old street artist who invited her to his studio. This sparked her desire to become an artist, and since then, she has gone on to produce Abstract and Cubist paintings that have received international acclaim from art connoisseurs.
