VIEW IN MY ROOM
The painting style is called segregational convergence and can be recognised by the segregation of the shapes within the painting with a convergent line prominent throughout. You can see in the painting there is a woman's face on the right, and she is surrounded by blossom. Her face is different on each side, which demonstrates that she has a split personality, or that part of her has changed yet some of the old still remains. Personally, this painting came from the dreams of my childhood. From the age of 6, I started teaching myself Japanese and I became absolutely fascinated by Japanese culture. I read every book, I watched every movie, I was besotted. I always specifically admired two things about Japan as a child. The beautiful Geishas in Kyoto and the Cherry Blossom season in spring. Although many years have passed and Japan seems to be getting further and further away, I hoped to capture my innocent, sophomoric dreams in this painting for you all to experience for yourself. Just like the woman in the painting, lots of things may have changed in my life, but some of those old hopes and dreams still remain.
