Painting: Oil on Paper.
This is an inspired body of work consisting of rhythms and forms. In musical terms funk is often based on the extended vamp on a single chord. The Bring on the Funk series runs as an extended vamp leaping from artwork to artwork. The effervescent colors dance across canvas and vibrate on paper.
Noun Physiology & Psychology
The production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body
These works interrelate with the term Synesthesia. In this case it would be referring specifically to “color synesthesia,” which is voice, music, and assorted environmental sounds that trigger color and shapes to arise, move or fade. For example, Kandinsky is a well-known artist from the early twentieth century who was said to have created synesthetic artworks that were literally titled Contrasting Sound.
Senses are limited in our consciousness, however, in this series I intended to capture and trigger the sense of sound in order to access the subconscious. By combining elements of soul, color, blues, jazz, rhythm and the subconscious, the outcome has succeeded in truly defining the element of sound and composition through the eyes.
In conclusion let this series be named Bring on the Funk.
