ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In The Great Vulnerability I have painted a boy's face, which is often associated with innocence, but the distortion and blood symbolizes the contrast between purity and the harsh realities of life. This duality prompts reflection on the vulnerability of youth. The distorted face and blood conveys a sense of internal or external turmoil, suggesting the impact of trauma or struggle on the individual. By combining elements of Renaissance painting with a contemporary and disturbing scene, I'm trying to offer a commentary on the evolution of art, societal norms, and the persistence of certain themes across different periods. I've deliberately used blood and distortion to evoke strong emotional responses from viewers, encouraging contemplation on the darker aspects of the human experience.
