“The Healer” - miraculous Icon with the selected Saints and the Holy Helpers / original artwork - multi-figured composition - handmade Icon Painting

↓ ↓ ↓ ▲ PAINTING: Wood, “Kovcheg” (cut-back centre portion), “Levkas” (Gesso), “Pavoloka” ( fabric/piece of cloth), Egg Tempera, Gold Leaf/Gilding HANDMADE ICON The Icons look like a real medieval Russian art, written by old masters of the 16th - 17th – centuries. All my paintings are stylized as antiqued and made in the classic technique of old Masters. ▲ Note: The icons have a number of specific features: cracks (“craquelures”); imitation of loss of the “levkas” and the paint layer. A pattern of minute surface cracks (a network of fine cracks) on painted surface. I developed my own unique technique and technology imitation of craquelure, loss of the “levkas” (gesso) and the paint layer. The crack patterns are artificial (handmade). The craquelure varnish was not used for the stylization! The icons are made to appear aged through the use of artificial methods and various techniques. The majority of the Icons, I have created were painted on aged wood, however, at times I have had to resort to the use of boards created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. In particular, this icon board created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. The “kovcheg” (cut-back centre portion) is deep, with two thin connected cut in the reverse side. All Icons are executed in accordance with the canon, iconographic traditions and iconography technique. The traditional iconography basically imitate rare extant icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries. The icons look old-time (old style/16th - 17th – centuries style) and very similar to the original icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries style. Thanks for looking! ☞ ••• Description of the main scene of the Icon ••• In the upper part of the icon, against a red background, are the half-figures of the Our Lady of Tikhvin, Mother of God “Inexhaustible Cup” and Our Lady of Vladimir. In the centerpiece is represented shoulder-length depiction of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. On either side of Him are multi-figured composition of the Holy healers (Saints Cyrus (Cyriacus/Cyriac) and John, the healers Cosmas and Damian, Saint Panteleon, Saints Zenaida and Philonella - the martyrs, Saint Tryphon (also spelled Trypho, Trifon or Triphon, and known as Tryphon of Campsada) - the great martyr, Saint Diomedes (Diomede) of Tarsus - martyr, Sampson the Hospitable, Saint Blaise, Saint Barbara and many others the Holy Helpers). A complex multi-figured composition of the icon is set against a hilly landscape. On side borders are the figures of the Saints standing (interceding Saints) in frontal poses. On the left, top-down, are the figures of the Archangel Michael, the Apostle Andrew the First-Called and Venerable Sergius of Radonezh. On the right, top-down, are the figures of the Guardian Angel, Holy Equal to the Apostles Great Prince Vladimir and the Saint Grand Prince the Pious Alexander Nevsky dressed in skhimnik clothes. On the lower border, in medallions are the half-figures of Saint Maximus, Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki, Saint Blessed Grand Prince Igor of Chernigov, Apostle Paul and Saint Martyr John the Warrior.
