Oil on fibreboard. Baroque landowner in surreal style. We were return guests at an old manor house that used to be a castle. Until then, our hosts had always taken excellent care of us. This last time, however, the owners had changed and so had the service. Due to very low amounts of food at mealtimes, for the last 2-3 days we were constantly hungry. The group went outside to paint the local landscape, while I stayed inside and began painting. All kinds of food items began appearing on the canvas, including an image of the bard landowner who would have owned this castle in the 18th century and was responsible for feeding the imperial army. I thought I would paint his countenance on the piece as I doubt he would understand the future castle owner's behaviour. This work was subjectively motivated. The fruit, bread, vegetables and meat are recognizable. Even the detail of the fish inspires thoughts in the viewer. One often paints on fibreboard because there are fewer issues than with canvas. If you like, you can work with charcoal or pencil on it. For this image, I used oil because it allowed for the subject to be further developed. It offered the potential for automatic changes. Translucent and with lines, this was drawn with the intential of expressing a dreamlike flashback.
