Painting: Wood, Woodcut, Resin, Found Objects on Wood.
Whenever I stare deeply at wood I often see surf breaks and islands in the grain so I developed a process working with tined resin to enable me to create a painting from a scene I find embedded within a specific board. So I spend a lot of time looking for wood which offers me an interesting topography and than work to bring it to life and see how the 'waves in the wood' come in. Since the patterns in the wood are the result of water moving through a tree I find there to be a beautiful continuity in using wood grain to represent an aquatic subject matter and as far as I know I'm the only person creating paintings like this. This piece is an arial view of a coastline reminiscent of Ireland complete with surf breaks that I found within the grain lines of a sheet of spalted Maple. The resin utilized is crystal clear ultra uv resistant 'art resin' self leveling epoxy specifically designed to ensure the preservation and protection of both the woodwork and the integrity of these beautiful colors! This glossy sheen finish also makes it washable. The piece comes with it's own "French Cleat" for quick, easy and super secure hanging. The painting wraps around the edges of the board and The backside has two coats of varnish so that all sides of this piece are sealed. Enjoy!
