The art of painting by Djordje Zivic has been developing as a harmonious and logical continuity started in the 1980’s, in the prevailing post-modern atmosphere in our art. At that very time Zivic established the main principles of his (neo)-expressionistic painting in which he always held onto the content, onto the anecdotal line which he was explaining in his authentic pictorial gesture-like interpretation. His gesture-like statement was originally manifested in his “new-painting” scenes of a fgure in the manner of the “Neuen Wilden” and Salome; then, in a series of dramatic landscape paintings and well composed still lives in vivid colours; and, fnally, it dominated also the paintings dedicated to the visions of the suspected and wished new urban appearance of Novi Sad. In all that, Zivic’s gesture-like painting is not only the result of the common way of exploring the inner mood, but also a technique to become convincing in expressing his own pictorial thinking. Because of that, one should keep in mind that Zivic controls and defnes his gesture fully conscious of the potential consequences regarding the comprehension of his painting. All these eruptively drawn lines contain a great deal of precision, defnition and conviction the author obviously very much cares for in order to “convince” the painting observer that his visions are authentic. And for over a decade, the painter Djordje Zivic has been implementing and devotedly developing his own futuristic visions.
