About The Artwork

What secrets could the land share with us, that it has witnessed for millions of years? Inspired by my desire to convey the energy and beauty of the earth, and the need to preserve that beauty. We must act now, to save the human race, the animals, the air, the water, and the beauty of this planet. Painted entirely from intuition, no photos or reference materials. I communicate with each piece to determine what to do next, which is how I proceed on every painting. Slowly releasing what the painting was meant to be. It is so rewarding and satisfying to work that way. Signed, titled, and dated on the back. Wired, ready to hang, sides painted, no frame needed.

Expansiveness, heart-centered generosity, spirituality, the inexpressible mystery of life, the paradoxical sense of joy and sadness. I hope that the viewer will experience a range of emotions. Using varied techniques of layering, textures, marks, scraping, and colors; I paint intuitively. Each painting unfolds its mystery to me as I consider each next choice. I treasure this freedom to explore, experiment, and express myself through my paintings, as they change moods, just as people do, as nature does. This intuitive, sensitive process takes time, to fully express what the painting wishes to be, as I contemplate and listen to each piece. My landscapes are invitations to stillness and meditation. My titles are created with hopes that they will enhance the mood and feeling of each piece. My work appears in both private and commercial collections in San Diego and the United States. Four works are used as the cover art for four issues of the American Journal of Critical Care, and featured inside two issues of Pacific Magazine. I was selected for both the 2015 and 2016 editions of 50 to Watch - a national, juried publication of San Diego artists. My painting "Rest in the Grace of Nature" 18x24" was chosen by Saatchi Chief Curator to be feature for the week of 8/21/23. My painting "A Caelo Usque ad Centrum" was chosen by Saatchi Chief Curator in the Top Picks of the Week of Jan. 11, 2016. In January 2020, in partnership with 2 other woman, I opened a gallery in Rosarito, Baja, Mexico. www.christinailenethomas.com
