ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Here I've taken a white rose bursting open and created multiple mirror images of it, making it revolve around a central planet-like sphere. My intent was to compare the big bang that created the universe with the little bang of creation that occurs daily on earth. I start my paintings with a red undercoat and build the image with multiple thin glazes of oil allowing the layers to remain somewhat transparent to create subtle complexity of color.

I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work.
