The Power of Buffalo and Bear Painting

I consider myself an illustrator, with a desire to be a good painter. I love patterns and colors and working with them together. Overall when I put these things together I’ve come up with my own philosophical meaning in my work. I use charcoal and graphite for the body parts and facial expressions. This medium is not permanent, like our own skin and body. I use the more permanent medium of paint for the clothing. Like our own clothes, when we pass on, our clothes and fabrics are sold, given away, or preserved in museums. The play with colors and patterns for the background give my pieces a contemporary feel, keeping the figure that is my subject in a contemporary time. I’m trying to convey to the audience to embrace the historical figure in a modern time. Give the realization that the Native American is a people of the past present and future. I want to educate people through my art, about the historical stories of my ancestors, myself and others. And inspire people to preserve their own history and the world around them. I want people to be inspired to create for a purpose. I aspire for my art to be able to bring awareness and contribute to causes that help with environmental and humanitarian issues and world peace. I strive for my art and myself to be successful and reach out to many different audiences.
