This is the only painting I have made using strictly bleach and burning and the effect was stunning in its subtlety. It was a very slow process but patience paid off. The composition was made from vertical elements of the building that I squished together into an Art Deco tower. Built in 1932, The Roxie was noted for its Art Deco or Zigzag Moderne style, including its stepped roofline, angular grillwork, chevron ornament, and terrazzo sunburst in the sidewalk. Bleach and burning on linen. 48" x 36". This piece is painted in mixed media on a coarse linen, stretched over a wood panel. The variety of materials enhance the linen, all of which is left exposed, creating a unique surface that is highly textured and matte. The linen wraps the edges of the panel.
