Freely inspired by Herman Hesse's book The Steppenwolf, painting combines figurative and abstract elements in an attempt to generate tension between sense and pure, or non-sense, visual perception. Thus, the essential and primal forms of geometric abstraction, present in the oldest pictorial and graphic manifestations of humanity, combine with a figurative element, circumscribed, as if imprisoned within the image. The painting, like the book, deals with anguish, reflection, overcoming and the lightness of the human spirit ... but, in the end, in a work of art, everything can be reduced to color, form and matter. Meaning is a dimension that hangs uncertain and tenuous over the concrete manifestation of the work.
