ABOUT THE ARTWORK

During its creation, I was imagining the mountains as the lithify waves. So if you blow on them in a magic way or if you unpause them, they will run again, interfusing with each other. Besides, Stone Wave 石涛 is a pseudonym of the well-known Chinese artist and philosopher Shi Tao.

I was born in Minsk, but spent my childhood in Bereza, a small town in Brest region, Belarus. Now I'm based in Minsk, where 5 years ago I established my Chinese Art Studio. I was dreaming to become an artist since I remember myself. I've been deeply inspired by everything with the Eastern mood: movies, actors, pictures and so on. Despite the fact, I was telling my classmates that I'd become a president, I was drawing all the time. One of my inspirations was the orthodox icon, which hung over my bed. So, I also desired to paint icons. Now it became true as at my free time I paint thangkas - a Tibetan Buddhist sacral paintings. No wonder, that I've chosen the Faculty of Philosophy to conceive the world deeply. And as the major turning point of my life, in 2015 I attended the Chinese painting workshop. There I fell in love completely, so that I've decided to make it the way of my artistic expression. Let me tell you more about Hsieh-i technique, which I currently use. It really remains me the meditation by its slow process, where each stroke is interlaced with breathing, and the brush seems like dancing. While painting, you totally concentrate your mind on the process and the idea you want to share. There is much of freedom in this technique, as well as the esthetics of the eastern teachings. It expresses the ideas of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, such as Emptiness or Yin and Yang balance. The moves of the brush show us how the Chi flows, so that you may see it on the rice paper afterwards. I use mineral pigments, ink and rice paper in my work as they are the traditional Chinese mediums.
