About The Artwork

This series of paintings by Roger Kanek and Carlos Jiménez represents lost deities in a postmodern era where religion and monarchs have diminished. Amidst technological changes, the distorted real world collides with the figure of goddess Artemis-Ixoq, opposing a technified world devoid of human meaning. The pandemic-inspired artworks reflect these themes. THE MYSTERIOUS MESSENGER: Faithful pray under a tree; it ignites, revealing a wormhole. A shapeless being with six eyes descends, questioning their prayers. It claims to fulfill desires but annihilates all life, as they prayed to the wrong God. THE LEGACY OF OZZYMANDIAS-KAN: King Ozzymandias wears an iron mask, his intelligence unmatched. He eliminates rival kings, ensuring his legacy through books, artworks, and statues. Millennia later, divisions arise, leading to a devastating war. The surviving inept perish. THE GATE OF HUMANITY: Animals and nature are absent. Iron prisons and metal jungles dominate. The world remains in darkness, detached from its own nature. Artemis-Ixoq observes with indifference, leaving a glimmer of hope through the sacred gate.

Carlos Jimenez finds his greatest source of inspiration in love and life. His observation of the lives that surround him, which transmit a spark to him, is the essential driving force that moves the artist to bring each work to fruition, using pieces of memories and his heart, sometimes broken, sometimes filled with unforgettable memories. His work is personal and very passionate, reflecting his sense of the search for a truth that may or may not exist. His philosophy is pragmatic, but with esoteric and passionate points of view about the meaning of life and the destiny of each person in the world. A little referenced to Albert Camus, Jimenez accepts the absurd and embraces it. To paraphrase Frédéric Beigbeder, he says, “My problem is that I don't believe in God, but I do believe in miracles.”
