The Truth and Lies Painting

This piece was inspired by the timeless theme of human honesty and deception. The imagery of the mask recalls the story of Pinocchio, a character whose lies manifested physically, a reflection of the inescapable nature of truth. The bubbles represent the fragile and transient nature of our constructed realities, which can easily burst when confronted with truth. Personal reflections on human behavior, societal masks, and the tension between how we present ourselves and our inner truths were central to creating this piece. I want viewers to pause and reflect on the masks they wear in their own lives, the fragile balance between truth and lies. The surreal imagery is intended to evoke a sense of introspection and perhaps even discomfort—prompting questions like, "What parts of ourselves are we hiding?" or "How do we navigate the blurry line between truth and deception?" Ideally, the painting provokes a deep, personal response, sparking thoughts about authenticity, vulnerability, and the illusions we create. I chose oil on canvas because of its rich texture and the way it allows for a softness that perfectly complements the dreamlike, surreal quality I wanted to convey. The slow drying time of oil paints gave me the freedom to layer the bubbles and the delicate feather, building an atmospheric, almost otherworldly feel.
