Natural materials: charcoal, coffee & amber shellac (natural binder). Artwork is signed (also on the back of the canvas). About | "The Two of Us in a Foreign Town" is a painting that represents my passion of exploring endless possibilities with my own imagination. A scene which is showing us, a young couple, that somehow got lost on the way back and found an abandoned town was made without any pre-conceived ideas — it was already there, I just needed the 'right material' to make it visible. On the horizon is an island with a high castle, the town is surrounded with brown water and there is a gondolier to carry us over, if we dare. The art style that I used is an interesting combination of a modern theme with a primal look. My primary focus were different qualities of lines, various textures and the completion of the work by using only two natural materials: charcoal and coffee. Coffee as a drawing or a painting material definitely isn't like any other. I like to say I see coffee more like a noble 'alchemical ingredient' that as an artist you have to explore it completely, before you can really 'feel' it and understand its true magnificence.

Slovenia
Andrej Mratinković was born in 1984 in a town Celje in Slovenia. He graduated at the Department of Fine Arts at University of Maribor in 2011. When he decided to study fine art, he quickly came to realize that his work will also be to deeply analyze all the components that will give him an artwork that he truly strive for; and for that he would need a lot of exploration, experimentation and experience. A turning point in his artistic development was the discovery of artworks by sculptor Mirsad Begić, who inspired him with his incredible work, personal mythology and introduced him to natural materials, especially "coffee". Mratinković's main fields of creativity are drawing, painting, small sculptures, digital art and graphic design. His art work is often linked with concepts like: imagination, primacy, archaism, mysteriousness, mysticism and poetics. /// Contact: amratinkovicdesign@gmail.com
