About The Artwork
The Unfettered Mind was created with artist-made acrylic-based paint. The paint I make is super-saturated with pigment which produces exceptionally bright colors. The image ground is 300gsm paper mounded on wood with an acrylic, archival binder. Some paintings are manifested from visual memory where as others are constructed from mental images formed during the painting process in response to stimulus in the studio such as music and audio recordings. The image evolved over the course of production while I was rereading Takuan Soho's, The Unfettered Mind. Miyamoto Musashi is a hero of mine from my college days.
