About The Artwork

Since 2011 I create artworks together with my honeybees. This painting of landscape-crocodile, trees with feet and a figure of the walker was inserted in the beehive for about two weeks. Bees perforated the canvas on several places and colored yellow auras around the holes. It's unbelievable the holes fit perfectly to the legs. (*1981 Jihlava, the Czech Republic) Contemporary painter of personal comments, spiritual, erotic and temporal subjects graduated from FaVU in May 2005. A gardener, beekeeper, Zazen practitioner. Born 1981 in Jihlava, grown up in Southbohemien in Trebon, now living in Brno. 1999-2005 studied Faculty of Fine Arts VUT in Brno, studio led by Prof. Martin Mainer, where he worked as a technical assistant as well. He spent a half year in art-studio of performance by Tomas Ruller. The absorption in topics like effluxion, erotic and above all spirituality is for his work specific. He was deeply concerned with meditation and a number of his paintings are just a record of perception of the body system and soul. However his paintings show no formal unity. His style reminds once of naivism or grotesque, another time it is similar to a gestic abstraction. Karpisek is concerned with action painting and conceptual performance painting as well. The topic of his bachelor- and master- work was Time (Timeness). He won the Prize of Decan 2003 for his mighty bachelor-work, for his large-format paintings of Hartung character. In 2004 he was awarded by the second place in the student's competition Artkontakt. His Mars is deposited in National Gallery in Prague. Since 2001 attended more than 100 exhibition projects. In 2015 he received a Honorary Mention in 11th Dave Bown Projects, New York City. Interview in Aesthetica Magazine: http://www.aestheticamagazine.com/q-and-a-with-jan-karpisek/
