About The Artwork

As a part of my latest series of works, 'The solitude of Summer' was inspired by the work of Matisse. 'The solitude of summer' symobolises a bright and happy atmosphere of a communal space, but also the often lonliness of life. The surrounding plant life represents the health benefits of being around plants and flowers, which can act as a form of meditation, solitude and respite. This picture aims to help the viewer have time away from the hectic goings on of everyday life, by having a slice of escapism hanging on your wall. Using bold colours and wonky angles, I took Matisse's style and love of still life and made it my own. This piece was show in Summer 2018 at On The Wall Art Space, Norfolk, UK.

I am a professional artist, based in North Norfolk where I work as an contemporary Oil Painter, and Tutor/ Studio Manager, at the Norfolk Painting School (UK's leading specialists in oil painting). Raised and educated in North Norfolk, I have always been surrounded by beauty, which inspired my passion for painting from a very early age. I could paint before I could write. I have painted throughout education, successes and failures, and it has always served a deep rooted purpose of release. When I was 20 I dropped out of university, where I was studying a Psychiatric Nursing degree, to become a full time Artist. Going against the grain, I am determined to make Art my career, to pursue something I love and live for. I work in oil paints, mainly focusing on painting florals. I particularly enjoy traditional glazing styles, while trying to make my subject contemporary. I have always struggled to articulate why I paint, so I always tell people to look at my paintings, as I hope they answer the question for me. I am inspired by Matisse, Hockney, Monet and Van Gogh.
