This is a plein-air watercolour of the Wilderness in the gardens of Ham House. Ham House is a 17th century stately home beside the River Thames near Richmond in south west London. The wilderness is an area of less formal planting with areas of trees and shrubs enclosed in hedges which are arranged in symmetrical patterns when seen from the air.
