About The Artwork

Thelonious Monk (October 10, 1917-February 17, 1982) is an American jazz pianist and composer famous for his style of improvisation, as well as having written many jazz standards. A complex character, Monk has often been caricatured and presented as a loner, a naive, a genius whose talent is innate. Not so loquacious as to make the interview exercise complicated, Monk is indeed an eccentric who takes great care in the way he dresses, flashy and elegant at the same time, carefully choosing the strange hats he wears all the time. He had a rather peculiar sense of humor, often misunderstood. Monk was very aware of his actions and how they were perceived, his eccentricities were not the result of his illness, but rather a personal taste and choice, as he himself suggests to author Frank London Brown: "You know, people tried to make me look crazy. Sometimes it's an advantage if people think you're crazy. »

I am a passionate Dutch portraitist who lives and works in France (Blois). I paint personalities and people who touch me, inspired by their talent and vision of life. My paintings are a tribute to these artists of all kinds, authentic, pure and, in my opinion, talented. I started with figurative Portraits. Now I am experimenting with pop art and contrasting colors. I like to work in series: Forever 27, Jazz musicians and singers, Impressionist Painters, Pop Music Stars, French singing and musical artists. I am happy to share these portraits with you and invite you to discover them here.
