Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

I have long been inspired by both the work of Paul Gauguin and Peter Doig, and was traveling this summer on the coast of Kenya where Kilifi Creek meets the Indian Ocean. The banana trees, the palms and the murky lagoons are so evocative of that post-Impressionistic work.

I hope that viewers can feel the subtle beauty and the tropical splendor of the coastal environment when they see this, and possibly dream of life in a remote village in Africa.

I used vivid oil paints to capture the green shades and blue shades and a kind of pinkness that exists there.
