Growing up in South Africa it was a common sight to see African women walking with enormous loads carried upon their heads. Back upright, confident and strong they went about their business with a variety of goods carried high on their crowns. My Fertility Goddess carries a new crop in an earthenware bowl and an earring bearing the fertility symbol denotes her purpose - to bring forth life into this world.

Aubrey is an artist designer and photographer from the UK and now based in Bangkok. He has a passion and love for the human body as the subject for his artworks. Taking this as his starting point he creates bold and powerful images, infused with a keen sense of design and form - working with both photography and painting as his chosen media. His principal interest is in exploring diversity and difference in the human form as well as his roots in South Africa. Progressing from drawing and painting from life, he translates what he observes into photography and paintings and over the years this has developed into multiple visual dialogues exploring the concept of the ‘eye of the beholder’, with Mapping the Human Body his most ambitious, award winning work to date. People, art and architecture provide the raw material which he scruitinises through his lens or paintbrush and processes them into memorable, if not unforgettable images. His primary objective is to create beauty. His tools of choice the camera and paintbrush. An artist looking at the world with different eyes. Born in South Africa Aubrey moved to the UK when he was 18. He studied art at the Bath Academy of Art and Graphics at The London College of printing and fell in love with all things visual. After college, he worked for Richard Bird - then resident designer of the National Theatre, and was fortunate enough to work on theatre, dance, opera and art gallery posters for the next 20 years. He designed many memorable poster campaigns that require a story to be reduced to its essence, conveyed in a split second. A useful skill that has greatly benefited his work as a designer and artist. Now as Creative Director, at one of the most well known interior design firms, he gets the chance to make good use of all the skills he has honed over the last 30 years.
