About The Artwork

When we release something, whether it's a person, an idea, or a belief, we are setting ourselves free from its hold. When you let go, you are allowing yourself to move forward and embrace new opportunities. This can be interpreted as a call to surrender control and to trust the process of life. Letting go can be scary and uncomfortable, but it can also lead to growth, healing, and a deeper sense of inner peace. We all often face the challenge of finding new motivation and inspiration in life, over the last six months, surrender has been a recurring theme in my art practice. I have found that letting go of what I think I should be doing and engaging in playful experimentation instead is a powerful tool for overcoming creative blocks and pushing forward. Rather than feeling stuck, I have embraced surrender as a means of unlocking new avenues for creativity. This is what happens when you let go.

Courtenay Kusitor is a British Ghanaian abstract artist who draws upon her interest in consciousness to inform her impressionist and expressionist work. She underwent a change in her own awareness and consciousness having suffered a trauma to her head and spine in 2013. It led down a path which changed her life, and her art. She has incorporated this new sense of awareness into her process, which is ever present in each piece. Her intention is to ignite a sense of inward and outward awareness , one that the viewer could bring into their life beyond the initial engagement of the art itself. Working predominately in inks, she uses an innovative mark-making style, casted on sustainable, hand made paper. It is a style she developed over a 20 year period, in part an evolution of a childhood love of calligraphy. Outside the studio, she creates digital art NFTs infused with the same ethos of consciousness. Courtenay is currently represented online through 100 Artists and Saatchi Art. She’s been selected three times in 2022 to exhibit at The Other Art Fair -the world’s leading art fair for emerging artists. Courtenay was also selected to participate in the Cluster Contemporary launch in 2022, a curated international group show for established and emerging artists. Courtenay’s work has been publicly acknowledged by American Pulitzer Prize Winning Art Critic Jerry Saltz, who has liked and commented on her art. Her work is held in private collections in the UK and USA.
