About The Artwork

Paper, enamel paint and chalk pastel have been used on a printed gallery wrapped canvas. The photograph is also taken by the artist herself of Seattle street life. "what i love about this picture is how looks vintage, but it is'nt " This series of work came about with the process of making her new home 'home'. Born and raised in Karachi- Pakistan, artist Najia Omer graduated from the Indus Valley College for Arts and Architecture. Najia, her husband and their baby boy immigrated to the United States in 2014 and chose the beautiful PNW to be their home. Najia’s work is deeply personal and evocative of the struggle faced by thousands of Americans over time. Like so many ‘newcomers’ before her, Najia finds herself exploring the enigmatic concept of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ as it relates to letting go of her roots to ‘fit in’, while simultaneously struggling to hold on to the influences that shaped her as a woman. Najia currently lives and practices in Maple Valley, WA
