About The Artwork

The view of a majestic old church positioned on the waterfront. The dominant orange/red and cold blue colors create eye-striking contrast. This is a multi-layered and textured, to large extent my autobiographical painting. The process of creating this piece involved a variety of carefully picked materials and techniques, as well as mark making, including a deliberate "crackle" effect to emphasise the character of an old building featured. The subsequent layers can be noticed upon close inspection of the artwork. The final layer has been created using the cold wax/oil paint in order to give the painting soft but striking finish. The painting doesn't need framing, it is created on a gallery-wrapped, wide box canvas. The sides of the work have been painted black to ensure the stylish finish. The front has been protected from UV and dust with matte varnish. The work comes signed and dated, with the certificate of originality. Please note that the photo presenting the artwork in-situ is for illustrative purpose only. Any questions please ask.

My landscape art follows on my previous academic research into the depth and beauty that can be found in solitude. I see painting as a very personalised, subjective, emotional process. My creation is hardly ever an accurate depiction of an actual landscape scene. Most of the time it is a reflection of my memories woven with imagination and affected by my emotions, dreams, desires, the music I hear, poetry, and my love of nature. I am fascinated by unexpected - yet unspeakably beautiful and mysterious – encounters of light and dark, day and night, real and dreamy. In this understanding, my paintings mirror and penetrate the intricate depths of human mind itself. Mesmerised by bloody orange skies and the blackness of the trees filtered by own emotional states and memories, here I find the most powerful desire to create. Inspired by the likeness of the magical and real, spiritual and natural, twilight and dawn, I keep experimenting and developing tones with oil paints, often preceded by acrylics, pastels and watercolours. I usually start with an abstract underpainting, followed by the tonal applications of undiluted fine quality oil paints, applied in subtle blended layers. Final stages of the process involve the addition of bolder, thicker, more defined and textured oil colours, to create the desired perspective and atmosphere. I then leave the painting for some time, watching it for many days, until I am satisfied with the final result.
