ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My abstract expressions continue in this piece with a playful mix of the study of ancient forbidden archaeology, and an imaginary god Toukanramen. While some of my "Photonic" paintings start with digitization actual acrylic paint, this one is accomplished strictly with digital brushes which allowed me to create a stone-like visual quality/texture. The final presentation however, is Fujiflex acrylic facemount, which is a smooth reflective surface providing a contrast to the stone feel and muted color palette. An inset frame on the back allows the artwork to float in a contemporary frameless style approximately 3/4" off the wall.

Award winning landscape photographer, painter, and digital artist based in Hana, Maui. From an early age, Michael started picking up visual art cues from his father and grandfather as they commented in the living room on TV commercials and films they had worked on. These early influences fueled an instinct to create, and a passion to convey emotions and tell stories through any available medium he could get his hands on. Though Michael is considered a self-taught artist, he credits his family and friends to be his primary influences. Working in film and TV (the family biz) eventually led to design and publishing of print and digital media, allowing him to hone his craft and become a well rounded artist. Michael's commercial images have found their way into magazines, books, and calendars. In the last several years Michael has been focusing on attaining a Master Photographer Degree and continuing to express himself through acrylic and digital painting. He is an IPC Gold and Silver Medalist (PPA), Viewbug curator, and proud contributor to the LAC+USC Healing Through Art Program. His love for the outdoors and dedication to environmental awareness has fueled him to collect a considerable portfolio of wilderness photographs, some of which can be seen in his 2016 book, Sacred Waterfalls.
