Tracce / Scent Acrylic on canvas - 50x70 cm - 2024 In this series titled “Tracce”, color transforms into form. The chromatic variations, created by layering different shades, vibrate under the effect of light, while the brush becomes the tool that leaves its mark. The connection with painting as a material is more tangible. What is not immediately recognizable turns out to be the most captivating aspect of the painting: it is the unspoken, the hidden, that invites the viewer to discover. My creative process always starts from a concept, which evolves both in painting and sculpture. Regarding painting, it draws from languages that range from the informal to the abstract. It is a direct form of art, without intermediaries, allowing for solitary work and self-reflection. Today, I find myself exploring simple and immediate materials, such as color, where reasoning gives way to aesthetic vision as a spiritual experience of art. Working in series offers me the opportunity to deepen and expand my artistic exploration, opening up new aesthetic and thematic experiences. I create sequences of works in which I strive to avoid repetition, transforming both the content and the form in each piece. Creativity thus becomes a tool for positive self-transformation, enabling a renewed vision of the world. A recurring element in my paintings is the use of graphic marks (automatic writing), which have no literal meaning but are purely visual. The artwork will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Girolamo Santulli (Salerno, 1974) graduated in 1998 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic research spans painting, sculpture, and installation, and he began exhibiting his work in 1994. From 1997 to 2002, he participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout the Campania region (Italy). In 2002, he began experimenting with digital media, using photography and video, where the human body became a central element of his work, revisiting a theme of interest from his early career. In 2007, he was selected for the "Project 59 seconds Video Festival," an itinerant video exhibition held in New York, Vienna, and at PAN in Naples. In 2009, Santulli held a solo exhibition titled “Between Places and Bodies” at the FRAC Museum, Baronissi (Salerno), featuring works from 2005 to 2008. In 2010, he exhibited at Spectre Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, as part of the group show “59 Seconds (and beyond)”, and the same year, his video work “Absence” was highlighted in the video section of the VII edition of the Celeste Prize. Since 2010, his research has shifted from a focus on the body to an exploration of humanity and space, incorporating new elements derived from the observation of places. In 2011, he exhibited at PAN in Naples in the group show “Divina Commedia”. In 2021, he won a public art competition by the City of Baronissi (Salerno, Italy) to create a work celebrating Dante Alighieri. The resulting site-specific installation, “dante700”, is permanently located in the Cherry Tree Park of the city. In 2022, he created another permanent sculpture for the City of Fisciano (Salerno, Italy) titled “Quasi parole”. Two of his works, “Microcosmo” (sculpture, 2002) and “Pass 32” (digital print, 2005), are part of the permanent collection at the FRAC Museum, Baronissi (Salerno). His current research is focused on experimenting with new forms and content, navigating between informal painting and sculpture. He lives and works in Baronissi (Salerno), Italy.
